I woke up this morning to find my India Pale Ale had clogged the airlock was rapidly building pressure within the primary fermenter. Apparently, I didn’t listen to the first “BrewFanatics Quick Video” about overfilling your fermenter. Anyway, I quickly removed the airlock to release the pressure and tons of fermentation excess began spewing out. [...]

This is my American Pale Ale fermenting the morning after I brewed it. The yeast kicked off really quickly and violently, resulting in the airlock blocking and exploding. I’ve fitted a blow of tube to relieve the pressure. You can find out more about airlocks and blowoff tubes at my website, www.brewing-tips.com Airlocks & Blowoff [...]

YEEHAW! Went out and got a basic beer making kit and recipe packet from the local homebrew store. My first batch will be an Irish Red Ale. The instructions are kind of funky when it comes to dissolving the DME and steeping the grains…………(?)

I’m experimenting with controlling the temperatures in my primary fermenter using a twist on the “swamp cooling” method. Instead of wrapping a cotton t-shirt around the carboy I substituted a coolmax (micro fiber) running shirt. Wow, it really wicks up the water better than cotton and so far is keeping the temp between 68-70 degrees [...]

In this last part of my four part kegging series, I fill the keg and talk about the different ways of carbonating the beer. I use the roll method at room temp and got good results. Check out the StarSan Serpent I got while filling the keg. Link to a great site where you can [...]

Just talking about getting back into homebrewing, books on the subject, and building a wort chiller out of copper tubing. Can’t wait to get started!
