The recipe for PLINY THE SORBET.: PLINY THE SORBET Simple syrup (3/4 cup of water, 3/4 cup sugar) 1/4 cup grapefruit juice (approx. half a grapefruit, juiced) one bottle (1 pint) of Pliny the Elder (minus one sip for tasting) Open up the bottle of Pliny the Elder and let it decarbonate for at least 30 min. Meanwhile, put the water and sugar in a small sauce pan and put over medium high heat until the sugar has completely dissolved (approx. 3 min.). Chill it. Chill the grapefruit juice also. Once Pliny the Elder has decarbonated, mix all the ingredients together and keep very cold in the freezer until everything is ready. Mix in a ice cream maker according to the manufacturer’s directions, approx. 30-35 min. The end result will be a very soft textured Italian ice. It must be further frozen overnight in the freezer to achieve the proper texture.

@Chad9976 I should try to have the music available. I’ll make my music page on Creative Commons one day so people can use it.
If you have any IPAs or Double IPAs that has citrus, or heck, even pine, you should try that. I think the Southern Tier Gemini would be PERFECT for this.
@qchome Wow, that’s so cool, qchome. Making beer ice cream at that young of an age.
@qchome Depends on what your priorities are. Since it’s only $4 for this bottle, I think it’s worth it. I also think it’s worth it because it tastes really good.
@MochiNyoki Hehe, I couldn’t wait so I had to eat Reeses ice cream.
It surprisingly doesn’t taste that much like beer. It’s a good sorbet!
@acromel huh, interesting. If it is good, I’m open to trying it.
@LeJimster hehe, I tried it later that week and it wasn’t too good. It lacked in the citrus and sweetness. But it’s ok. It usually is really really good.
見た目は美味そうやな〜
Beer Sorbet!! I know a fraternity that is going to be hipped now!!! Thanks for the recipe…
Finally!!! The pictures for Pliney the Sorbet has been on Facebook for so long! Looked great would love to try doing that sometime, but would also love to just try Pliney the Elder! But yeah we needed a taste test
@yuichituba cool. that sounds like a good percentage but i think i will stick to liquid beer. after a while my tongue would go numb and i would lose the ability to speek… it happens either way, lol. but i enjoyed the video pls keep um comming.
Did you hear the collective sigh from us East Coast beer geeks as u poured the beer into the syrup! If only i had enoughy access to Pliny to make sorbet!
@BeerGeekNation Hahaha, I understand. You should try making this with some of the Double IPAs you have out there. Like ST’s Gemini.
The intro looks professional. *adding sorbet making to my todo list*
Great idea! I too, like @BeerGeekNation am sad that we can’t get it here locally but I could see using another quality IPA to make it. I don’t have an ice cream maker though
夏のお祭りに出せば売れそうだね。それにしても台所大きくて羨ましい。。。
That looks fantastic!
would you recommend using turbinado for the simple syrup or is it too dark? I try to avoid processed sugar if I can help it.
@chemicalcraig69 Turbinado for the simple syrup would work.
@chemicalcraig69 Turbinado is almost processed the same as regular sugar. The last bleaching step is left out. It is almost the same on the Glycemic Index as white sugar. Succanat from Wholesome is better option unrefined option.. But I like using clear organic and raw Agave for the best results. It has the least amount of taste and is very low on the Glycemic Index.
@chefhbeer Is Succanat hard to find? Agave is a plant genus. Is there a specific species that yields the best sugar?
I think i will have to invest in a ice cream maker.
Thats cool, im going to make some dessert, Cheers
Have you ever had Lagunitas Pale Ale? It has amazing grapefruit undertones. It might make an amazing sorbet.
@TopBeerTV Ya I have. Actually, their IPA would be even better. Maybe even their Hop Stoopid.
